Women’s Mental Health Counselor (LPC) you say? That’s nuts. But here I am, at the precipice of a new chapter in my life: I’m going back to school to become a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in women’s and teen’s mental health!
Can you believe it? Because I’m still wrapping my mind around this.
In my mid 40’s, I’ll be back in college for the next handful of years. It’s a wild idea, I know. Some people might even say it’s a waste of time at my age. But the truth is, I don’t see myself ever fully retiring – at least not until I’m 80 or something! And frankly, I’m still YOUNG.
Here’s the thing: wisdom comes with age and experience. I’ve lived a life full of both incredible highs and devastating lows. I’ve been through things that nobody should have to go through, but I’ve also had experiences that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Life is rich, messy, and beautiful – for better or for worse.
For over 14 years, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring and coaching women, both personally and professionally. We’ve worked together on mindset issues, figuring out how to get out of our own way, and healing the things that hold us back. I’ve also done a lot of my own personal healing work, unpacking past traumas, and challenging the limiting beliefs that were holding me hostage.
Through all of these experiences, I’ve come to realize that everything affects our mental health, and vice versa. Mental health is a broad term, and it touches every single part of our lives. I’ve always been a huge believer in prioritizing my mental well-being. I was likely one of the only high schoolers who was reading Dr. Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra. Being mentally fit is one of my core values, as a woman, a coach, and a business owner.
So, becoming a licensed therapist is the natural next step for me. It’s a way for me to take all the knowledge and experience I’ve gained over the years and use it to make an even bigger impact on the lives of women, because my work has always been about the women I serve. And frankly, my coaching has always encompassed these teachings with my clients.
Don’t worry, though! Simply Gorgeous by Erin will still be here to serve all your wedding beauty needs (and of course, our signature eyebrow and lash services). I will also still be taking coaching clients; the available spots will just be more limited. But in addition to that, I’ll also be learning new ways to serve you in a way that will have the most beautiful impact of all.
Wish me luck on this new journey! It’s for me and for you.
